Allied, Teamsters seal last-minute deal By Sean Kilcarr Jun 2, 2003 12:00 PM Car hauler Allied Holdings Inc. reached a new but still tentative five-year contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents 70% of Allied's U.S.-based workers, just hours before the union planned to go on strike. The proposed contract includes a wage freeze for its first two years, followed by wage increases of 2% starting in June 2005, with another 2% in June 2006, and a 2.5% increase in June 2007. Decatur, GA-based Allied also agreed to increase health, welfare and pension contributions for each year of the new contract.
The proposal, which covers about 4,300 drivers, mechanics and yard personnel employed by Allied in the U.S., must still be ratified by the Teamsters' membership.
