Automated logs coming

Jun 1, 2002 12:00 PM

An electronic driver's log under development by PeopleNet Communications has satisfied Dept. of Transportation certification requirements, according to the company. Called eDriver Logs, the automated program should be available later this year for fleets using the company's wireless communications system.

The system will run on existing PeopleNet onboard or handheld devices, and will provide remote access to driver logs for dispatchers and other fleet managers. Using GPS and engine sensors, it will automatically change driver status if a vehicle is moving and a driver has forgotten to input a duty status change. The system will also alert drivers as they near daily thresholds for hours of service, according to the company.
