Auxiliary truck A/C plugs into 120V line

Nov 1, 2001 12:00 PM

Volvo's VN 770 technology demo truck, which recently completed a nationwide tour, was equipped with a prototype auxiliary air-conditioning system that can provide climate control even when the truck's engine is not running.

The prototype Cruisair HVAC system, supplied by Taylor Made Environmental and developed jointly by TME and Volvo to evaluate alternatives to engine-driven A/C systems, plugs into 120VAC service at a terminal or truckstop. Cable connections and circuit protection are provided by Volvo's factory-installed Shore Power system. On the demo truck, the HVAC system had a computerized programmable control and display with a handheld infrared control, similar to a TV/VHS remote.
