Cummins Westport tests LNG

Jun 24, 2003 12:00 PM

Cummins Westport Inc. has announced that it will lead Canada's first multi-fleet deployment of heavy-duty trucks using natural gas on the country's busiest urban roadway.

Cummins Westport will work with a consortium that includes Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. to deploy trucks using 15-liter heavy-duty engines operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) along Highway 401 between Toronto and Windsor, Ontario.

The project will determine the performance and emissions reductions of trucks using Westport-Cycle technology in regular on-highway operation.

Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) and Natural Resources Canada (NRC) will provide funding for the two-year Clean Air Corridor project.

SDTC, a not-for-profit organization created by the Canadian government, will provide $1 million Canadian for the project, and NRC is contributing $400,000 Canadian.
