Dodge Rams being recalled

Apr 9, 2003 12:00 PM

DaimlerChrysler is recalling 23,000 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 series pickups from the 2003 model year so engine control software can be reprogrammed to prevent abnormally high engine speeds.

AutoWeek reports that the affected trucks are equipped with Cummins diesel engines and manual transmissions.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the OEM found that some engines were not returning to idle after drivers made extensive use of cruise control. That could cause unintended acceleration and extended stopping distances, NHTSA said.
