Praxair installs lane-guidance truck technology By Sean Kilcarr Nov 21, 2002 12:00 PM Private carrier Praxair, a tanker operation that transports gases under high pressure, has committed to an initial order of 200 new trucks equipped with Lane Guidance, a lane-departure warning system developed by Iteris. Praxair said that it plans to eventually equip all of its 600 tractors. Anaheim, CA-based Iteris, a subsidiary of Odetics, said lane departures were listed as a factor in 43% of all the fatal accidents in the United States in 2001, based on data compiled by the U.S. DOT.
"We chose Lane Guidance to enhance the safe operation of our fleet," said John Mitchell, Praxair's manager of national distribution. "All new trucks purchased by Praxair will be spec'ed with this system."
