Lafayette, IN-based Wabash said it lost $134.9 million on sales of $166.6 million in the fourth quarter, compared to a loss of $28.4 million on sales of $274.8 million in the same period in 2000.

For the year, Wabash lost $232.2 million on sales of $863.4 million, compared to a loss of $6.7 million on sales of $1.3 billion in 2000.

Wabash said its losses relate to restructuring charges, layoffs, the sale of its international division and efforts to reduce used trailer inventories, along with the fallout from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the recession. The company also took a charge in 2001 because it was not in compliance with rules of its line of credit.
