Western Star Receives ISO 9001:2000 Certification Tim parry, web editor May 8, 2001 12:00 PM Western Star Trucks Inc. has announced becoming one of the first North American heavy-duty truck manufacturers to qualify for the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The certification follows an independent audit of Western Star's operations, management and quality systems. The Freightliner LLC subsidiary marked its achievement of ISO 9000: 2001 with a ceremony at its truck manufacturing plant in Kelowna, British Columbia, today. During the event, auditors from KPMG officially awarded Western Star the certification. “Today's award highlights our focus on continuous improvement and emphasis on manufacturing high quality products,” said Carsten Reinhardt, gm of operations. “We will continue to enhance our systems and processes in our constant effort to build the highest-quality commercial trucks for our customers.”
Organizations seeking ISO 9001: 2000 certification must demonstrate that their business processes are designed to deliver continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. Areas such as internal communication, quality awareness, customer communication and departmental and functional objectives are audited, in addition to the traditional quality system areas of corrective actions, internal auditing and documentation control.
