Anthrax van accident prompts hazmat response

Mar 3, 2005 3:16 PM

Hazmat teams blocked off a section of downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba for about two hours when a FedEx van carrying samples of anthrax and other infectious agents was broad-sided by another vehicle yesterday, reported canada.com.

The samples and its packaging remained intact, reported canada.com, as all the agents were individually encased in bubble wrap, placed inside a solid plastic container designed to withstand a plane crash, and then packed in a cardboard box.

The van was en route to a national virology lab.

A Canadian science official said the public was never in any real danger. There were no injuries.
