The national average price for a gallon of diesel shed another 5 cents last week, falling to $2.342, according to the Energy Information Administration. This marks the second week of price drops and is just 6.6 cents shy of the $2.408 record high recorded on July 11.

Nearly all regions posted a decline, but in the West Coast prices held flat at $2.53. The Midwest region saw the biggest relief as prices fell 6.9 cents to $2.292. The Gulf Coast is the cheapest region in which to fill up at $2.278 after a 5.3-cent drop. California is once again the most expensive place to purchase diesel at $2.578, despite a 1.1-cent dip.
