The national average price for a gallon of diesel soared 11.1 cents to $2.765 for the week ending April 16, according to the Energy Information Administration. This marks a staggering 50.6-cent premium over the same week last year.

Although all regions suffered a price hike, it was small comfort that the region that has weathered the highest prices, California, saw the most stable price, on average rising 5.2 cents to $2.933. California prices remained the highest, however.

Conversely, the region that had the most inexpensive diesel suffered the largest price spike, with the Gulf Coast region seeing a 12.4-cent jump to $2.725. The Gulf Coast held its claim to having the cheapest pump prices in spite of this.
