The national average price for a gallon of diesel rose 2.3 cents to $2.92 for the week ending May 14, according to the Energy Information Administration. This marked the seventh straight week of diesel price hikes, with prices having risen 35.5 cents since the week ending March 26.

All regions reported an increase—expect for California, the region in most need of relief at the pumps. There prices fell a modest 0.2 cents to $3.242, but California still held its claim to being the most expensive region for a fill up. The New England and Central Atlantic regions tied for posting the largest increase, with both up 3.1 cents to $3.003 and $3.014, respectively. Bargain hunters would still be happiest at the Gulf Coast, with $2.829-diesel after a relatively modest 1.5 –cent increase.
