The national average price for a gallon of diesel hit a new record high last week at $2.336 on a 2.3-cent increase, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.

All regions posted an increase, but prices held the steadiest in the Central Atlantic region on a one-cent rise to $2.461. The Rocky Mountain took the biggest hit as prices rose 5.2 cents to $2.288. Despite such a large jump, the Rocky Mountain region tied with the Gulf Coast for being the cheapest area in which to fill up. California remains the most expensive region to fill up in as prices shot up 4.6 cents to $2.522.

An EIA economist in an earlier interview with Fleet Owner indicated that the recent trend for high prices could pave the way for more record-setting prices in the winter.
