Freightliner adds air-disc brakes, noise abatement packages

Mar 31, 2005 4:07 PM

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Freightliner Trucks announced the availability of the latest Bendix/Spicer air disc brakes as an option on its Class 8 truck models, as well as its medium-duty and vocational Business Class M2 models, here at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The air disc brakes offer improved brake pedal feel and reduced brake fade, the OEM said.

To receive the disc brake option, Freightliner vehicles must be equipped with proprietary front axles. The brakes can be spec’d for 24.5-in. tires.

The OEM also announced the availability of two noise reduction packages: a standard package for the Business Class M2 106, 106V, 112 and 112V models; and a premium package for the Columbia day cab and sleeper configurations, as well as Business Class M2 models.

The standard package features a decoupled barrier made from lightweight foam spaced away from the firewall, engine tunnel and floor, “minimizing vibrations and blocking noise.”

The premium package reduces interior cab noise levels by three decibels, or 50%, according to Freightliner.

In addition, Freightliner offers two engine noise shield options for the Business Class M2 line.

The premium noise reduction option for the Columbia decreases interior noise and vibration, and is offered in five sub-packages.
