Goodyear names Highway Hero finalists

Four professional truck drivers have been selected as finalists for the Goodyear North America Highway Hero Award, a prestigious program that recognizes drivers for acts of valor on the job.

One driver will be named the 2004 Goodyear North America Highway Hero during the Mid-America Trucking Show later this month.

The 2004 finalists are:

Jose Ogas Jr., of Fayetteville, NC, a driver for TMC Transportation, who saved a man and his daughter from their burning car on I-70 in Pennsylvania.

Pat Foraker, of Quaker City, Ohio, a driver for Transport Corp. of America, who saved the lives of two women involved in a two-car crash with the aid of his wife, Brenda.

Rick Dent, of Diana, Texas, a driver for Groendyke Transport Inc., who saved a father and his two children who were trapped in a car that landed in a water-filled ditch.

David Tucker, of La Grande, OR, a driver for Seneca Foods Corp., who saved the life of a California Highway Patrol officer who was attacked during a traffic stop.

“In the 22 years of the Goodyear Highway Hero program, we have heard about hundreds of truck drivers who placed themselves in harm’s way to save someone else, and we believe it is important that they are recognized publicly,” said Steve McClellen, Goodyear vp—commercial tire systems.
