Jun 30, 2005 12:40 PM

The American Trucking Assns. (ATA) announced that Highway Watch, an intelligence- gathering program established to prevent terrorists from using large vehicles as weapons, has trained more than 100,000 people in the transportation industry to date.

Transportation workers are instructed to report specific information concerning any incidents or suspicious activities to emergency responders or law enforcement officials.

The Dept. of Homeland Security made a $19.3-million commitment in March 2004 to expand the Highway Watch program, with an additional $21 million earmarked for 2005.
