The national average price for a gallon of diesel last week retreated 5.1 cents to $2.847. This came as news that much of the refining and oil infrastructure along the Gulf Coast will recover sooner than expected from the disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina.

All regions received a much-needed price break from last week’s record highs, but the California region saw the biggest drop at 9.2 cents to $3.158. California remained the most expensive region in which to fill up despite this. Prices remained the steadiest at the Rocky Mountain region, as prices fell only 1.9 cents to $2.957. The Midwest region stole the crown for the cheapest region for diesel from the Gulf Coast, after shedding 6.1 cents to $2.782.
