Yesterday operations in the Port of Vancouver was crippled when truck drivers stopped hauling in a push to gain higher pay and fuel surcharges, according to Reuters Canada. The Vancouver Port Authority said 30- to 40% of the containers that normally move through the port were stopped.

Businesses in British Columbia would be most impacted by a port work stoppage. The Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest port, trading over $43 billion (CAN) annually.

“The port is calling for the immediate appointment of a facilitator to resolve this dispute,” the port authority stated in a news release. “The estimated loss in economic activity in just one week is estimated at approximately $30 million (CAN).”
