Yesterday, most retail pumps nationwide switched from low sulfur diesel to ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) to comply with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations. And the national average price for a gallon of diesel actually fell by the Oct. 15 deadline, the Oil Price Information Service has reported.

On Oct. 15, prices dropped to $2.61, a 0.4-cent drop compared to Oct. 14. Today, prices fell 0.5 cents to $2.605, OPIS said.

The OPIS data confirmed earlier predictions by energy experts that the nationwide transition to ULSD would generally be met with consistent pricing and ample supply.

Gasoline prices have fallen along with diesel prices. Today, the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.226, a 0.6-cent drop compared to Oct. 15.
