Teamsters launch UPS Freight drive

Jul 31, 2006 3:38 PM

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has begun its campaign to organize workers at UPS Freight, formerly Overnite Transportation, at its Indianapolis terminal. Teamsters aims to focus on organizing one terminal and to “negotiate a strong contract” that would be used as a model to organize other terminals, the union said.

UPS Freight has over 300 terminals around the country, which Teamsters unsuccessfully attempted to organize when Overnite managed them.

“We’ll be submitting a majority of cards for Indianapolis soon and we hope to begin bargaining with UPS by the end of September,” said Ken Hall, Teamsters director of the Parcel and Small Package Division.
